How to Share the Gospel

Whether you are new in the faith or have been a christian for decades, sharing the gospel is vital for spiritual growth.
Here are some helpful tools and methods to help you share your faith! Learn and notice how our pastors use these methods in every sermon!
Here is how to pilot a gospel conversation from takeoff to touchdown.
Before you take off, you must be fueled with the right motivation otherwise a conversation with someone will go nowhere or not even make it to the final destination. The Bible talks about the correct motivation for sharing the gospel is obedience to God, compassion for the lost, and urgency for the gospel to reach more people.
Next, you need to get passengers on board. A conversation is defined as informal talking that is shared between two or more people. In order to have a gospel conversation you simply need someone to talk to. Before engaging with a person it is important to pray for them. It is said that before you talk to people about God you must first talk to God about people. After praying for that person's heart and life, you then care for them. Showing care to a person breaks down previous barriers and builds trust. When trust is built then a gospel conversation will takeoff smoother.
How do you start a gospel conversation? Just like that. By asking questions about that person. Everyone knows how to talk about themselves, so that is a great place to start! Admire what you can about the person as they answer your questions. Admiration also builds trust.
Next, admit your hope in the gospel to that person. Share with them how Jesus saved you and changed your life. Personal testimonies are powerful.
Use the acrostic at point #4 to clearly communicate the gospel. This is not a script for you to read directly off of but rather a tool for you to remember. This acrostic goes through the entire Bible starting in Genesis and ending in Revelation. Memorizing this acrostic will ensure that you don't forget any part of the gospel while in converstion. You can stick close to these notes or go more in depth! This is here to help you have a clear gospel conversation.
Oh and don't forget to clearly conclude the conversation. Leave no room for ambiguity when it comes to a gospel conversation. Ask them if what you talked about made sense. Do they have any more questions? Ask them if anything is holding them back from trusting Jesus. If so, ask them about that. If they don't want to talk about it anymore than continue to pray and care for them until they are ready to keep talking about the gospel. They may come back to you with more questions after they think about it. If there is nothing holding them back then ask them if they trust what Jesus did for them on the cross. If they do trust Jesus then pray a simple prayer with them, invite them to church, and continue to walk with them in their new faith! Communicate that the prayer doesn't save them. Jesus does. The prayer simply helps them start communicating with God.
Congratulations! You've learned how to have a gospel conversation!

The Power of Invitation

Everyone appreciates an invitation. Even if they can't make it to the party. People do get offended though when they weren't invited at all.
There is power in your invitation, even when others say no.

Invitations extend a welcoming hand, offer help, give guidance, develop skills, exchange love, offer a front row seat, and can change a life.

Which step of invitation are you on in your faith and how can you take your next step?

Stair 1

I was just invited to church by someone but haven't started inviting others yet.

This stair is the starting point because everyone starts from an invitation.

Stair 2

I invite people to church indirectly.

This may mean you invite through sharing church social media posts or setting out church invite cards in public without engaging in direct conversation.
You may put invite cards in grocery carts, park benches, restaurants, and other places where people will find them.

Stair 3

I invite people to church directly.

On top of indirect invitations, you will invite your coworkers, friends, and family to church face to face, over text, through a phone call, or even email!
Any method of invitation that goes to a specific person directly.

Stair 4

I invite people to walk in faith with me.

This means that you invite people to live life with you in faith throughout everyday life. You invite your friends to serve on a team with you, join your City Group, and grow in the faith. You come alongside new christians and teach them how to live for Christ. You share the gospel with the lost. The people you invited to church are starting to invite others to church. Your every day life is an invitation for others to be led by God like you are being led by God.
